I used to love going to the record store and buying 45s! I have no idea where my records went. I think my Mom finally threw the milk crate full of albums away.

When I was married we had a huge stereo with surround sound in the living room. It had speakers like obelisks! I very generously offered all the stereo equipment and very heavy TV to my ex-husband. I have since purchased a light flat-screen and a Sonos wireless speaker for the kids and I. (I still buy CDs sometimes.) But I pay for Spotify and it is a blast to find almost any artist my two munchkins throw my way. I love hearing their music reviews over breakfast in our kitchen. They are the Spotify/YouTube generation so far. I wonder how they’ll listen to music when they’re adults.

I’m pretty happy you continue to focus on creating music and writing long-form blog entries. I’ll keep buying CDs and concert tickets if you keep writing music.

I ran into you two that day on Harvard Ave in Allston. I thought you got it from Mr. Music or whatever that shop was just up the street. You two were very excited.

I had an interview scheduled later that day with Michael Penn that I was excited about. So, putting that all together it would have been 1992.

For better or worse, I do find Tin Machine forgettable. Though lately I’ve been keeping an eye out for their first LP to give it another go.

I do not travel with a CD player per se. Ripped the disc (Apple lossless) and listened on my iPod on the flight back home.

Do you travel with a CD player these days? I’m curious if the “mastered for itunes” version is any different really from the CD.

Yep. In my more cynical days, I wouldn’t have hesitated to take The Thin White Duke to task for his good/bad ratio. But over the long haul he’s got the bookies smoked.

It’s well worth picking up, for sure. And as for the album cover, it can be seen as underwhelming, I agree. My thought is that it’s Warholian. Perhaps not meant to inspire lengthy gazing so much as an intellectual response that may or may not be directly related to the image itself.

I also wonder how many artists are thinking about the 300×300 thumbnail aspect of album art (sigh). What better way to spread the brand of your new album’s name than with a white box with easy-to-read text?

I’m looking forward to purchasing this and to have a moment to sit w/ this and listen. The snippets I’ve heard were good and way more exciting than other recent work, however I haven’t had a moment to run down to the record store and purchase the LP. I thought the Heros rip on the cover was an interesting maneuver, I’m still not sure how I feel about it. Creative yes, but interesting? Not sure.

Agreed! It’s a great piece of work. Stands very well on its own, damn those Beatles comparisons. And that it was the work of three teenage boys is mighty impressive. I never tire of it.

I think this is one of the best albums of the 60s, but never have I seen it recognized as such. Of course, it’s not actually their first album. Reminds me of Ringo, who named his sixth album Ringo the 4th, ignoring his first two.

I saw Peter Murphy open up for the Church about 25 years ago and I still remember most of it. I wish I had seen him play live with NIN.
